Audiolog

Audiolog in realtime scans logfiles and the output of debug or trace programs like tcpdump. A small configuration file assigns regular expressions to arbitrary sound effects.

What is so special about Audiolog is its small latency with that the acoustical signals are produced. This feature makes it very useful for monitoring real time traces like those during an analysis of network traffic.

Unlike with optical perception humans are able to process acoustical signals very fast and detect certain patterns or derivations from normality without attentiveness.

The current version of Audiolog is neither mature or free from bugs. But it is usable. We will gladly receive proposals for improvements.

System requirements: Linux and GNU development tools. Audiolog produces sounds making use of /dev/dsp and should therefore not be too difficult to port to other Unix-like operating systems supporting that device.
